Perth Youth Futsal Spring 2004 League Cup

The Spring 2004 League Cup sessions proved to be a fitting finale to the season at Bells Sports Centre last Friday night. In the Under 11 cup Abernethy took an early lead and held out for a narrow victory over River Plate. In an entertaining game full of attacking Futsal, it was a close call as both teams showed some fine attacking play and appear to have adjusted to the rigorous demands of Futsal.

In the 11 – 13 Cup, it seems teams have learned to combine defensive duties to their normally non-stop attacking play. Indeed both semi finals resulted in solitary goal wins, with Scottish Stars narrowly edging past Santos and Boca Juniors doing likewise against newly crowned league champions Scorpions. This pattern continued into the final where Boca Juniors scored the only goal of the game to secure a memorable victory over a strong Scottish Stars side.

In the 14 – 15 Cup, Guildtown completed the double, having also won the league championship a few weeks ago. They squeezed through a tricky first stage tie against Flamenco, but then found their form to ease past Luncarty Boys in the semis and won comfortably in the Final against Vapors, who had come through 2 penalty shoot-outs in their previous games to reach their first final.

In the 16 – 19 Cup, Camelot finally showed their form of old to convincingly beat Chunna Moshers to reach the final where they met FC Sweden, who had avenged their recent championship decider defeat against PGS Montebelluna in emphatic style. In a competitive final, Camelot emerged the winners by the odd goal in a five-goal thriller.
