PYF U16 Select Team friendlies against Maccabi GB U16s

On Sunday 12th June, PYF players aged between 14 & 16 formed two teams to participate in friendlies against a visiting Maccabi GB U16 squad from London.

The PYF teams gave a very good account of themselves in what was effectively their first competitive outing, with the skill levels on display being of a similar standard. A few basic errors in the first game swung things very much in favour of the well-organised visitors, and the PYF team found themselves chasing the game after that. In the end, they were unable to close the gap, and the visitors won by 8 - 3. Of note in this game was the superb displays by Stuart Murie in goal and Scott Wightman in attack.

In the second game, things were much closer as the PYF team dominated early proceedings but were stung by two counter attacking goals, the second of which came as the half was nearing an end. The organisational skills of the Maccabi side were very much evident as the endured a second half onslaught by the Perth team, but with goals being traded evenly, it was a case of what might have been for the Perth boys as they eventually succumbed to an ill-deserved  6-4 defeat.

The Maccabi team edged both games by virtue of their experience and organisational ability, but it was a good first outing for the PYF teams and another step forward in their development. With upcoming trips to Ireland and Spain, these friendlies will have whetted their appetite for further international adventures, and they will mature with every future encounter.
